Red Kite class follow the Chiltern Wood Combined Curriculum which combines a ‘learning through play’ approach with functional learning, which is informed by the national curriculum and Early Years Foundation Stage. The goal is to promote meaningful engagement in activities, flexibility, independence, and self-efficacy. The curriculum is personalised to each and every child to ensure they achieve maximum success in their learning and fosters a ‘have a go’ attitude. Learning is provided through motivating, interactive, hands on sessions. Emphasis is placed on developing the children’s communication, personal and social, self-help and independence, and physical skills as they enter into secondary education. The children benefit from regular input from the speech and language, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy teams, in accordance with their statements.
