Senior Support Assistant: Sahara Manral
Squirrel class is a class of seven lower Key Stage 2 children who experience a range of severe learning difficulties.
Children in Squirrel class follow an adapted Early Years curriculum and engage in a cross-curricular learning through play approach. Alongside this, the children learn key skills through 1:1 structured activities. Learning is provided through motivating, interactive, hands on sessions that are tailored to pupil's interests and foster a love of learning.
Throughout, emphasis is placed on developing the children’s communication, personal and social, self-help and independence, and physical skills. The children benefit from regular input from the speech and language, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy teams, in accordance with their EHCP plans.
Lessons in this class are practical and a high level of sensory experiences are incorporated into the different sessions. Play is used to develop social/peer relationships and activities support opportunities for working together.
