Red Kite class use a TEACCH approach to access the Coppice curriculum, which is informed by the national curriculum and Early Years Foundation Stage. The goal of Structured TEACCHing is to promote meaningful engagement in activities, flexibility, independence, and self-efficacy. The curriculum is personalised to each and every child to ensure they achieve maximum success in their learning and fosters a ‘have a go’ attitude. Learning is provided through motivating, interactive, hands on sessions. Emphasis is placed on developing the children’s communication, personal and social, self-help and independence, and physical skills as they prepare to enter into secondary education. The children benefit from regular input from the speech and language, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy teams, in accordance with their statements.
